CUET Commerce 2026: The Syllabus Changes You Can't Afford to Miss

Financial Markets is back in Business Studies, Entrepreneurship is gone, and Economics is now three parts — here's what shifted and how to prep.

If you are sitting CUET in 2026, the NTA has revised the commerce syllabus, and a few changes directly affect what you study and skip. The good news: CUET is now aligned more closely with the Class 12 NCERT, so your board prep does most of the heavy lifting. Here is what actually changed.

Business Studies: one unit back, one gone

  • Financial Markets is reintroduced. Money market, capital market, functions of stock exchange and SEBI are back on the table — do not skip them.
  • Entrepreneurship Development is dropped. You can deprioritise this unit for CUET.
  • Smaller additions appear across chapters like Staffing, Directing, Marketing and Consumer Protection, so revise the full NCERT rather than old shortcut notes.

Economics: now a three-part subject

The Economics paper now spans Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and Indian Economic Development. The notable deletion is LPG / Economic Reforms (Liberalisation, Privatisation, Globalisation), which has been removed. Make sure your Indian Economic Development revision reflects this so you are not memorising deleted content.

Accountancy: lighter in two places

  • Not-for-Profit Organisations (NPOs) has been dropped.
  • Redemption of Debentures is no longer included (issue of debentures stays).
  • The internal choice between Financial Statement Analysis and Computerised Accounting remains.

How to prepare smartly

  • Always check the official syllabus PDF on cuet.nta.nic.in. Coaching sites summarise, but the NTA page is the source of truth — verify before you cut a single topic.
  • Use your board prep as the base. Because CUET tracks the NCERT, strong board revision covers most of the ground; then add CUET-style MCQ practice on top.
  • Train for MCQs and negative marking. CUET is objective and time-pressured, which is a different muscle from the descriptive board exam. Practise reading speed and accuracy.
  • Map your target universities' subject combinations before finalising which optional subjects to attempt.

A syllabus change is only a problem if you find out late. Lock in the official list now, align it with your board notes, and shift your MCQ practice to match. If you are also weighing courses after 12th, ACES has a free careers guide to help you choose your domain alongside CUET prep.
