How the Plus Two result is worked out
Your Kerala Higher Secondary result is not just the Plus Two exam. Each subject is scored out of 200, adding together both years: the Plus One and Plus Two terminal exams (TE), the continuous evaluation (CE) marks from both years, and the practical (PE) in Plus Two.
- Theory subjects (English, languages, Business Studies, Economics, Accountancy with AFS, Political Science): TE 80 + CE 20 each year.
- Practical subjects (Accountancy with Computerised Accounting, Computer Application, Statistics, Maths with practical): TE 60 + CE 20 each year, plus a 40-mark practical in Plus Two.
Grades and the pass mark
- A+ 180–200 · A 160–179 · B+ 140–159 · B 120–139 · C+ 100–119 · C 80–99 · D+ 60–79 · D 40–59 · E below 40.
- To pass a subject (D+) you need 60 out of 200 overall and at least 30% in the two TE exams together: 48 out of 160 for theory subjects, 36 out of 120 for practical subjects.
- There is no separate minimum for CE or practicals. If your TE is below the minimum, the grade is D even if your total is above 60.
- You need D+ or better in all six subjects to be eligible for higher studies.
A worked example
Take Accountancy with Computerised Accounting. A student scored 49/60 in the Plus One TE, 19 + 19 in CE and 38/40 in the practical: 125 so far. For A+ (180) the student needs 55 more, so 55 out of 60 in the Plus Two TE. To pass, they already have more than 60, and the TE minimum (36 of 120) is already met by the Plus One TE — so this subject is passed whatever happens. The calculator starts with these numbers.
Percentage
The DHSE score sheet shows scores and grades; colleges that ask for a percentage normally take your total out of 1200 (six subjects × 200). For degree admission, universities use their own index mark instead — see the B.Com & BBA index mark calculator.
SAY and improvement
If you don’t reach D+ in a subject, you can write the SAY exam for it: only the TE is written again, and your CE and practical scores carry forward. If you have passed, you can take an improvement exam in one subject.
